I'm reading this series to my kids and they are loving it. Sometimes they get restless during the descriptions of how things are made, but for the most part, they enjoy the stories that Laura tells about Almanzo and his family.
The thing I like about this book is that it subtly teaches values of hard work, honesty, and providence without it coming across as preachy or overbearing. It gave me multiple chances to talk to my kids about the choices Almanzo made, why he made those choices, and if they were the right ones. But beyond the fact that it's a great conversation starter, the book is also a beautiful story.
My girls loved the story of Almazo's teacher, the Fourth of July celebration, and the Christmas get together. If you've never read these books, or your kids haven't read them yet, try reading them together. It's wonderful to experience these books with your kids.
