We all have books we didn't finish reading. I try to read every book I pick up through to the end, but sometimes, I just can't do it. Here are some that I DNF (did not finish).
Wait for You by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Why I DNF - I got about 20% of the way into this book before I quit. It had far too much language (lots and lots of F-words) for my tastes. I don't mind a cuss word every now and again, but this was over the top. Also, I could see where the relationship was headed, and I am more of a clean (squeaky clean) romance kinda girl.
Mortal Fire by Elizabeth Knox
All things considered, I should have loved this book. It is right up my alley, after all. I just didn't. I started reading, then quit at around 100 pages. I left it alone for a couple of months and then went back to it. I read another 100 pages and quit again. It was very detailed, drawn out, and slow. The writing was beautiful and the story was good, but everything took so long to happen that I lost interest. Twice.
Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
Now that I think about it, I'm not surprised that I didn't finish this one. The beginning was really interesting and I loved it. Then the Flash happened. I am not fond of dystopian books and science fiction in general, but I didn't mind the post-apocalyptic world so much as I minded the zombies. Ugh. I am NOT a zombie person.
Plus, Arthur gave me the creeps in a major way.
Inferno by Dan Brown
This is another book that I fully expected to like. I've never read any of Dan Brown's other books, but I like suspense, and I like art history. I love European art history especially, so this should have been my kind of book. But when the MC had made more than 5 skin-of-the-teeth, death-defying escapes by 8:00 in the morning, I was bored. The story was too far fetched and the MC too amazing for me.
I'm the same way with curse words. I don't mind them at all but when you use it too often what are you trying to prove?
ReplyDeleteAt least you gave Mortal Fire a fair chance.
The creep would have sent me running too. I'm not really a zombie person either. Can't find a book that would change my mind.
"more than 5 skin-of-the-teeth, death-defying escapes by 8:00 in the morning, I was bored" - Haha (: ~ Would be way too unrealistic for me too. I know a good many people who've been reading this lately. I don't know whether they liked it or not but it doesn't sound like for me anyways.
I was really disappointed with all of these books because I had expected to like them. Oh well. You're bound to have books that you just don't click with.
DeleteI never finished Twilight. I started it and couldn't stand the rundown of what Bella did every day. I also didn't like her character. I will probably force myself to read it again some day since I got the whole series as a gift.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED Twilight! It's funny how everyone connects with different books.
