About the Book:

Who says a girl can't wear a dress and wield a sword? It has become fashionable now for princesses to run away and seek adventure. Princess Arianna of Linderall, however, is willing to stay home and be proper. She screams when she sees spiders, enjoys sewing and dancing, and always looks at her reflection first thing in the morning. What happens when her great aunt, the first woman warrior in history, decides that Ari is too "traditional" and sends her off to the Royal Rivieran Academy of Fighting Arts? Can she survive the vigorous physical training and earn the respect of her peers? Moreover, can she attract the attention of a prince even when she’s forced to relinquish makeup and dresses during training?

About the Author:

Aya is from Taiwan, where she struggles daily to contain her obsession with mouthwatering and unhealthy foods. Often she will devour a good book instead. Her favorite books include martial arts romances, fairy tale retellings, high fantasy, cozy mysteries, and manga.

She is currently working on her third book, Girl with Flying Weapons.

My Thoughts:

I seriously love the way Aya Ling writes. I had the chance to beta read this book before it was published. I loved it then and I loved it again when I read it for the second time after publication.

In this book we get to follow princess Arianna of Linderall as she unwillingly attends the Royal Rivieran Academy of Fighting Arts. She must learn all the skills required for adventuring when she would much rather order a new gown. The writing is light and quick to read. It's a very clean book, so even Tweens can enjoy it without parents worrying over content.  There is light humor and a sprinkle of romance throughout the book.

Arianna goes through quite a big change during the course of this story. She goes from being pampered and rather useless to being an independent and courageous young woman. She doesn't lose herself, and she doesn't change completely, which I really liked. She stays herself.  Highly recommended for fans of clean fairy tales and coming of age stories.

Content: Clean

The first book, Princesses Don't Get Fat is currently FREE on Amazon.  I LOVED that book!
